Nutrition Services introduces Spotlight on Cuisine to district high school students

On Oct. 31, students at Maple Grove, Osseo and Park Center senior high schools had the opportunity to try out a new meal during lunch as a part of Nutrition Services’ Spotlight on Cuisine.

The Spotlight on Cuisine featured San Salvador and Honduran food, including pupusas, which is a masa (corn) griddle cake filled with beans and cheese or birria beef and cheese, and curtido, a traditional spicy slaw made with cabbage, jalapeno, onions, carrots, cider vinegar and oregano. The goal of the Spotlight on Cuisine is to educate students on different cultures through cuisine three to four times a school year with fun and exciting menu items.

The students were excited to try out the new dish, lining up for a taste. The students seemed to enjoy the new meal, with one remarking, “I have never tried something like this before!”
