An exciting new school year is almost upon us. Osseo Area Schools is already preparing for back-to-school by taking a close look at its COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The upcoming year will look a little different than last and inch closer to a more normal school experience.

Please review the following information about how school will function this fall. It’s important to note that this information is based on current guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education and could change between now and the start of our school year based on further state or federal direction. If you have any questions or concerns after carefully reviewing the included details, please email WeListen@district279.org

Osseo Area Schools is looking forward to welcoming your students back into our classrooms and kicking off another great school year on Wednesday, Sept. 8. See you soon!

Learning models

Vaccinations and confirmed cases

  • The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is available for individuals 12 years and older. Proof of vaccination will not be required of students or staff to attend school/work.

  • Students and staff with confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be asked to self-isolate at home. Students and staff will also be asked to quarantine at home should a member of their household test positive for COVID-19. Our schools will not be conducting contact tracing for any known confirmed cases.

  • Students and staff will be encouraged to practice personal health hygiene, including covering their cough, washing their hands and staying home when sick.

Face coverings/masks (updated July 29, 2021)

  • Due to a federal requirement for mass transit, students and staff must wear a face covering/mask on school buses.

  • In accordance with guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Health, it is recommended, but not required, that students and staff wear a face covering/mask while indoors at school.

  • In accordance with guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Health, it is not recommended that students and staff wear a face covering/mask while outdoors at school except in a large group setting.

  • The Minnesota State High School League will determine face covering/mask guidance for activities.

Other logistics (updated Aug. 9, 2021)

  • Schools will maintain at least three feet of social distancing between students within classrooms, where and when possible.
  • Group sizes will not be limited for either small or large events, including performances and athletic games.
  • Regular school meals will continue to be provided free of charge to all students thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Even so, it’s extremely important to fill out the free/reduced meal application to continue to receive discounted services, like school activities and home internet service (upon qualification).
  • Disinfection and cleaning will continue. A hospital-grade disinfectant is used throughout our schools.
  • Ventilation will be run on a modified schedule to provide as much fresh air and airflow as possible.
  • Following the appropriate protocol, visitors will once again be allowed into our schools. Further details, including when volunteers can begin to visit our buildings, will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Share your school plans by filling out back-to-school forms online starting Aug. 9

This year, back-to-school forms will be filled out online via ParentVUE. Forms that are a part of this process include emergency cards, family contact information updates (including address changes) and photo/military denial releases.

The back-to-school forms process begins Monday, Aug. 9. In preparation, families that have not yet used ParentVUE will receive login information via email on Tuesday, Aug. 3. Please note that if you have not used this system before and you do not receive an email with login information on Aug. 3, it likely means there is not an email address on file for you. In this case, please reach out to your school to update your family information.

ParentVUE holds a variety of student information, including grades, progress reports and transportation assignments. Students use a similar application called StudentVUE.
