2023 Winter Sports Round-Up
Check it out! Here’s a listing of district schools that participated in winter post-season matches and how they fared.
Note: Maple Grove Senior High School is noted as MGSH, Osseo Senior High School as OSH and Park Center Senior High School as PCSH.
Adapted Hockey
- The Maple Grove CI adapted floor hockey team, representing all three high schools, placed third place at the state tournament.
- The Maple Grove PI adapted floor hockey team, representing all three high schools, won the consolation championship at the state tournament.
Basketball, boys
- PCSH boys basketball team placed second in the Class AAAA state tournament.
Cheerleading
- MGSH Traditional Competition Cheer placed second at the National High School Cheerleading Championship at Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
- MGSH Game Day Cheer placed fourth at the National High School Cheerleading Championship at Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
- PCSH Cheer were named state champions and placed fourth in Small Varsity Non-Tumbling at the National High School Cheerleading Championship at Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Hockey, boys
- MGSH boys hockey team made it to the quarterfinals of the Class AA state tournament.
Dance
- MGSH Crimson Jazz dance team placed first in the 2023 Class AAA Jazz state tournament.
Gymnastics
- Maya Woods, a sophomore from PCSH, placed fourth in all-around, 12th in vault, 12th in uneven bars, third in balance beam and fifth in floor at the Class AA state tournament.
- Sasha Thompson, a senior from MGSH, placed 10th in all-around, 24th in vault, 16th in uneven bars, 35th in balance beam and third in floor at the Class AA state tournament.
Nordic Ski Racing, girls
- Savannah Krull, a senior from MGSH, placed 25th in individual start classic and 33rd in pursuit at the state tournament.
Swimming & Diving, boys
- MGSH senior Logan Cyr placed 11th in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle and eighth in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle in the Class AA state tournament.
- MGSH junior Thomas Botkin, sophomore Rodrigo Rodriguez, eighth grader Lucas Bakker, and senior Logan Cyr placed 15th in the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in the Class AA state tournament.
- MGSH placed 26th overall in the Class AA state tournament.
- OSH freshman Mason Krings broke the 28 year old school record in the 100 fly with a time of 52.96
Wrestling
- MGSH freshman Connor Peterson placed fifth in the 120AAA state tournament.
- MGSH sophomore Ben Schultz placed sixth in the 195AAA state tournament.
- MGSH senior Max Johnson competed in the 145AAA state tournament.
- OSH senior Vayo Kamara competed in the 220AAA state tournament.
- PCSH senior William Russell competed in the 285AAA state tournament.
