Maple Grove hockey player selected for world championship game in Sweden

Danielle Strom, a goalie for the Maple Grove Senior High School girl’s varsity hockey team, will take the ice in Sweden this week as part of the 2023 U.S. Under-18 Women’s National team. Strom and her team are competing in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF)’s Under-18 Women’s World Championship, which takes place in Ostersund, Sweden.

The Maple Grove varsity team gathered Sunday morning, Jan. 8, to cheer on their teammate with a viewing party of the U.S. team’s opening game against Sweden, which Team USA won 6-3.

Strom, a junior, has racked up some significant achievements in her hockey career. She was also selected for the 2022 U.S. Under-18 Women’s team, where the team advanced to the Gold Medal game and took second place. She was invited to participate in the 2022 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival, as well.

Strom has committed to continuing her hockey career after graduation as part of the University of St. Thomas women’s hockey team.
