Osseo Area Schools provides summer learning opportunities

During the summer, students participated in a wide-array of learning and fun through programs, activities, and events. There have been many great opportunities, and these are only a few highlights of how students spent their time.

Students learn STEAM skills at Oak Summer Robot Camp

Students in the Oak Summer Robot Camp worked hard to develop their Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) skills this summer using hands-on robotics and coding activities. The incoming third through fifth graders learned valuable lessons during the four-week camp that took place at Oak View Elementary School.

Students ‘dig’ into learning at Weaver Lake: A Science, Math and Technology School

In June, students kindergarten through fourth grade learned about plants at Weaver Lake Elementary School. During this summer program, students learned about symbiotic relationships and used technology to develop growing plans. Activities were tailored to each grade level, but each student had an opportunity to put their green thumbs to the test.

Traveling on the Mississippi River with the Global Summer Institute

Teachers and program leaders were excited to kick off the first Global Summer Institute. This summer program integrates West African culture and drumming into a robust learning experience. Students learn from leaders and go on weekly field trips. In partnership with the Indgenous Language Summer Institute, students were able to ride on the Anson Northrup Riverboat down the Mississippi River.

Indigenous Language Summer Institute provides holistic education opportunities

Students at the Indigenous Language Summer Institute have spent the last few weeks learning about Indigenous history, culture and connections to the Mnisóta (Minnesota) landbase. Students in grades 6 through 12 focused on basic and intermediate language proficiency in Dakota and Ojibwe language classes, using those lessons to participate in traditional activities.
